Hi! I'm Liane (she/her). I graduated with a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Toronto in 2013. I have been working in the mental health field since 2015. I am part of the LGBTQ+ community, a parent, a mental health consumer, and I've had experience with ethical non-monogamy for over fifteen years.
Who am I?
What the heck is Occupational Therapy?
Great question! Occupational therapy (OT) encourages us to see and understand people holistically by considering who they are, where they've come from (their environments), and their 'occupations' (the things they want/need to do in their lives). OT helps us examine how our daily routines, habits, roles, and rituals affect our physical/mental/cognitive health. OT is goal-focused, client-centered, practical, and collaborative.
My approach to mental health...
My approach to mental health is non-pathologizing. I believe that our bodies are our inner compass. When we (build capacity to) lean into our feelings, we can connect with their wisdom. Our feelings can shine light on what we want and need, what needs to be looked at, and what needs to change. I see the world through a deeply trauma-informed lens- I believe that our bodies have an innate ability to heal, and are invested in our safety, survival, and joy.
